Dynamics of freely suspended drops translating through miscible environments

چکیده
Our work focuses on an experimental investigation of droplets freely rising through a miscible, more viscous liquid. We report observations water glycerol and corn syrup, which are common household ingredients. Immediately after the drops formed, they take prolate shapes rise with constant velocity without expanding in size. However, critical time predicted by our theory, continually grow into oblate spheroids, as mix ambient liquid, their volume increases decreases, eventually following power laws. present scaling relations that explain main observed phenomena. laws governing rate volumetric increase decrease, namely $t^{1/2}$ $t^{-1/2}$, respectively, remain points further investigation.

Glass transitions of freely suspended polymer films
We present a modified version of our " sliding model " , where chain arcs, between two contacts at the surface, may move if all the barriers along the arc are weaker than a certain threshold. An important advance of the revised model is that the high limiting chain lengths N * observed in the experiments (N * ∼ 10 4) are naturally accounted for. In this model, a film of thickness h < 2R 0 (wher...
متن کاملEvaporation of freely suspended single droplets
Evaporation is ubiquitous in nature. This process influences the climate, the formation of clouds, transpiration in plants, the survival of arctic organisms, the efficiency of car engines, the structure of dried materials and many other phenomena. Recent experiments discovered two novel mechanisms accompanying evaporation: temperature discontinuity at the liquid–vapour interface during evaporat...

We present a new technique allowing us to build freely suspended two-dimensional electron gases from AlGaAs/GaAs/AlAs heterostructures. This technique relies on an MBE-grown structures that includes a sacrificial layer. ( 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Date The final copy of this thesis has been examined by the signatories, and we find that both the content and the form meet acceptable presentation standards of scholarly work in the above mentioned discipline. The motion of topological defects in the director field is observed in freely-suspended smectic-C liquid crystal films using reflected polarized light microscopy. We study the annihilat...
